Program Director Job Description

Position title: Program Director
Classification: Exempt, Full Time
Reports to: Executive Director

Position Summary 

The Program Director provides leadership and oversees the development, coordination, and administration of all aspects of Puente’s programs including planning, organizing, leading, and evaluating. Puente’s focal Programs include Economic Security, Community Health and Behavioral Health, Advocacy and Education.

Essential qualifications 

  • Bachelors or Master’s degree (preferred) in Non-Profit Administration or related field and at least 3 years of experience or a combination of successful experience in program development and management and supervision as well as administration of programs
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English)- with native or near-native proficiency
  • Knowledge and experience working in an underserved community, preferably rural
  • Ability to demonstrate clear evidence of commitment and understanding of diversity, including but not limited to socio-economic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of the community and staff
  • Ability to work effectively with and manage a culturally diverse staff
  • Ability to create and sustain relationships with other organizations including government, non-profits, foundations, faith based organizations and corporations
  • Strong organizational skills including the ability to manage multiple concurrent projects
  • Excellent written and oral skills in English and Spanish
  • Experience with budget development and management
  • Strong computer skills including but not limited to Microsoft Office and data management software
  • Strong ability to evaluate and analyze data and make sound decisions based on interpretation of data
  • Significant supervisory experience of at least four direct reports
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends, as needed

Program Responsibilities 

The Program Director performs a wide range of duties including but not limited to:

Program Development, Management and Evaluation 

  • With Executive Director and Management Team, development of programs in accordance with Puente’s mission y values
  • Provide leadership and direction to program managers in developing, implementing, and evaluating programs
  • Development and implementation of programs’ long-term goals and objectives to achieve successful outcomes
  • Ensure that program activities operate in accordance with Puente’s policies and procedures
  • Coordinate the delivery of services (from outreach to evaluation) among different programs to increase effectiveness and efficiency
  • Expand current program evaluation framework to assess the strengths of the programs and to identify areas for improvement
  • Develop and update instruments to document program activities, as necessary, providing oversight and quality control for data management efforts
  • Ensure programs meet funding requirements, data collection and quality customer service
  • Identify and evaluate the risks associated with program activities and take appropriate action to manage the risks
  • Recruit, cultivate and coordinate volunteers

Leadership 

  • Ensure that programs further Puente’s mission to build a healthy, sustainable and inclusive South Coast community, maintaining standards of excellence in all activities
  • With Executive Director and Development Director, draft competitive funding proposals to ensure continuous delivery of program services
  • Communicate with program participants and other stakeholders to gain community support and to solicit input to improve programs
  • Ensure programs are delivered according to the confidentiality/privacy policy of the organization including overseeing the collection and maintenance of participants’ records
  • Maintain Executive Director fully informed of program development and assist, as necessary, with internal and external communications
  • Represent the organization with other government agencies, foundations, supporters and general public, as necessary
  • Perform other related responsibilities as may be assigned

Staff 

  • In consultation with the Executive Director, recruit, interview and select well-qualified program staff
  • Supervise program staff by providing direction, input and feedback and enhancing collaboration across program areas

Finances and Development 

  • Assist Executive Director in development of annual budget and operating plan to support Puente’s program areas
  • Ensure that the programs operate within approved budgets, monitoring and approving all budgeted program expenditures according to established accounting policies and procedures
  • Participate in development team meetings and assist with Puente’s fund development strategies
  • With Executive Director and Program Managers, write reports as needed and assist with the creation of organization’s publications including newsletters and annual report

Compensation

  • Salary range $75,000 to $90,000 based on skills and experience
