Earlier this year I was trusted to continue the work of our founder, Wendy Taylor, and our long time leader, Kerry Lobel, to build a healthy, sustainable, and inclusive community. I could not have tackled this first year without the amazing support and guidance from the Puente staff and Board of Directors. These individuals work tirelessly to move our mission forward, along with an incredible number of volunteers, funders, partners and participants who have taken the lead in many of our initiatives and are themselves agents of change. Together they all want to make a difference in our community. Not that long ago, Puente did not have a health clinic. Today, not only do we have a clinic with expanded services, but also new partnerships that provide dental services to farmworkers for the first time. With the leadership of parents in the community, Puente started a bilingual childcare parent cooperative for toddlers. Doors opened in October 2016 and we will continue to work with our supporters and partners to establish a permanent location. Puente is working with our San Mateo County partners to find solutions for the lack of adequate, safe, workforce housing. Together, we have surveyed farmers and farmworkers to determine the needs of our community. This Annual Report highlights what we call “Solutions at Every Stage.” Serving infants to seniors, Puente is the sole community service provider that touches the lives of residents at every stage of their lives – providing transformational assistance with programs and services that move people to the next phase of achievement, security, and health. We could not do the work we do without your support, your trust, and a shared vision: a place where everyone can access vital services and aspire to their highest dreams. We are very grateful for your ongoing support. Rita Mancera Executive Director 2 2 LETTER FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
