Community Mental Health & Wellness
Puente’s Community Mental Health and Wellness (CMHW) program, provides free accessible, high-quality, and culturally relevant mental health services with bilingual English/ Spanish mental health professionals at no cost to individuals and families living or working in Pescadero, La Honda, San Gregorio, and Loma Mar.
We use Trauma Informed Care Approach as the foundation of our programs and services. Trauma-informed care emphasizes physical, psychological, and emotional safety for both participants and providers and helps survivors rebuild a sense of control and empowerment. It is an ongoing process which involves understanding, recognizing and responding to the effects of all types of traumas.
At Puente, our staff, board members, and volunteers are trained in trauma-informed care guided by these principles.
Community-based Services
- Individual, couples, family, and group therapy available to the community.
- Group therapy and support groups to be determined based on the needs of the community.
- Trauma-informed care practice through ongoing workshops.
- Mental health support and activities for allied community group.
School-based Services
- Partnership with LHPUSD to provide therapy services to students during school hours.
- Group therapy and support groups are determined based on the needs of the students.
- Monthly teacher clinical consultations (by appointment only)
- Classroom wide programs:
- Transformative Life Skills (4/5th grade students): Evidence-based mindfulness curriculum in self-resilience, self-awareness, emotional regulation, and healthy relationships.
- Joven Noble (Middle and High School Students): Comprehensive evidence based, youth leadership development program that supports and guides youth through their “rite of passage” process while focusing on the prevention of substance abuse, teen pregnancy, relationship violence, gang violence, and school failure.
