Local children are making a Nativity Scene with the guidance of local artist Logan Payne and support of Pescadero Community Church and Puente

On October 31, 14 children gathered at the Pescadero Community Church for two hours to start making a Nativity Scene to be on exhibition at the PCC altar during the Holiday Season.

Children will learn basic art skills such modeling (working with clay), drawing, painting and will learn and share the world wide known story of the Nativity, from a tradition and culture perspective.

Logan and volunteers and staff of PCC and Puente will guide the children for 6 weeks to make the figures and ornaments of the Nativity. This week they were visited by Johny Apple Seed and used him as a model to draw the donkey for their project.

Participants meet on Sundays at PCC from 10 am to 12 pm.

Funding for this program is provided by the San Francisco Foundation..

Puente Observes Dia de los Muertos

Puente made sugar skills (calaveras de azucar) with 110 students with 7 different classes at Pescadero elementary school. Thanks to Norma Zavala and Tim Cook for teaching students about this important festival.

Day of the Dead (Dia de los Muertos) focuses on gathering of family and friends to pray for and remember friends and family members who have died. The celebration occurs on November 2 in connection with the Catholic holidays of All Saints Day and All Souls’ Day. Traditions connected with the holiday include building private altars honoring the deceased using sugar skulls, marigolds, and the favorite foods and beverages of the departed and visiting graves with these as gifts. The Day of the Dead is a time of celebration when eating and celebrating  are common.
