May 17: Volunteers needed for Career Night!

We need volunteers for our Career Night on May 17! Want to help with set up, clean up or child care (specifically leading crafts and games)? We’d love to have you join us! Puente is looking for five fun and enthusiastic people who want to help.

Join our La Honda office team as a volunteer

Puente is looking for five volunteers to staff our La Honda office. The best candidates for this volunteer position are people who are available for a four-hour block of time at least once a week for the next six months and are bilingual. These volunteers will receive extensive training on the programs and resources that Puente offers.

Please contact Abby Mohaupt at amohaupt@mypuente.org for more information.

What does Puente need this month: Kerry’s Birthday Edition

awkwardkerryRally support!

Executive Director, Kerry Lobel, was an awkward teenager. That’s why she is using her 60th birthday to raise money for Puente’s Summer Youth Leadership Program. She is halfway to her $15,000 goal (in honor of Puente’s 15th anniversary!) Will you donate now and help her reach it? Donating on Rally, our social fundraising platform, will also ensure you stay up to date with our baby photo challenge- for every $500 raised, we post another Kerry Lobel, authentic baby photo. There’s a rumor going around that Kerry will reveal her teenage bikini photo if the goal is met! Donate today!

Puente also needs school supplies!

School supplies drive is ON! Between now and July 29, Puente is collecting every kind of school supply to fill the backpacks of 250 local schoolchildren. From art supplies (crayons, watercolors, construction paper) to organizing and math supplies (binders, Scotch tape, rulers, calculators), we need it all. Cash donations are welcome. No donation too small!

The best of times: Puente staffers reflect on 15 years

Puente marks a major milestone this year: its 15th anniversary. Since 1998, Puente has grown several times over. But it has stayed true to its roots: fostering prosperity, health and social justice for more than 1,500 – more than a third of South Coast residents each year.

Many staff members remember a time when Puente existed solely to provide farm workers with food, warm clothes bicycles and bedding. Another organization in town, North Street Community Resource Center, was there to address health care and childcare needs for women and children. The two groups merged on April 1, 2007.
