Puente attends Emerging Mexican and Mexican-American Leaders Workshop

On Sunday October 30, Puente staff member Rita Mancera attended a workshop aimed at helping emerging community leaders further understand the challenges facing Mexicans and Mexican-Americans living  in Northern California and the connections between Jewish and Mexican communities. The workshop also discussed the opportunities for community empowerment, networking, lobbying, fundraising and positive Media Stragedies. The workshop was presented by the American Jewish Committee Wells Fargo, Institute de los Mexicanos en el Exterior, and the Consulado General de Mexico.

 

Introduction to College Presentation

On Friday October 21st Puente hosted an introduction to college Presentation for local youth. Students learned about the benefits of staying in school. They recieved a list of the college prepatory classes they should take in high school and learned the differences between universities, Community colleges and private universities.

Farmers Markets End, Flu Clinics and Día de los Muertos

This week, the first season of Pescadero Grown! Farmers’ Markets comes to an end with a celebration of farmers, producers and customers. Puente will partner with San Mateo County Health System to offer the flu vaccine in La Honda and Pescadero. In addition, the Pescadero market will feature an altar in remembrance of Día de los Muertos, Day of the Dead, in addition to bread of the dead and hot chocolate.
