Puente Youth updates on World Issues and Chicano-Latino History

Kassi Talbot, recent graduate from University of the Pacific in Stockton and the newst Puente Staff, leaded a presentation about “World Issues” where youth did a team reseach about topics such: Lybia Riots, Children Soldiers, China’s Economy and the War in Iraq.

This activity was part of the Summer Temathic Blocks that youth staff can attend.

The same week, Larry Trujillo, former Educator at UCSC, introduce the youth to Chicano-Latino History.

 

 

Summer Week of Law for Puente Youth

Staff, volunteers and youth from three different Non-Profit Legal Services providers presented three different angles of the Law to Puente’s Youth as part of the Summer temathic blocks.

Youth Interns from Community Legal Services of East Palo Alto presented: Legal Rights in relation of Immigration and a brief summary of the Dream Act innitiative.

Youth Interns from Legal Aid Society of San Mateo County presented: LIBRE (Linking Immigrants to Benefits, Resouces and Eduation) training.

Staff and Youtn Interns from California Rural Legal Assitance presented: Youth and Law such driving and drinking, fighting, etc.

 

 

 

Summer Youth Staff goes to UTI and Cal State Sacramento

On July 8 a group of youth visited Universal Technical Institute in Sacramento and California State University Campus Sacramento.

The group toured both campus facilites and learn about their academic program, resources available, work field, costs and other information good for them to consider when their time come to apply for college.
