Half Moon Bay families visit Puente to learn more about agriculture in the South Coast

A group of families from Half Moon Bay visited Puente and toured Pescadero with Kerry Lobel, Puente’s Executive Director.

This group of parents and their children meet regularly to learn about opportunities and challenges in the South Coast. During this trip, they learned about Puente’s work, about the food that is locally produced, about the importance of consuming local produce, and about those producing it and harvesting it.

The group gained appreciation on how food gets to their table. Gemma McCluney, age 9 commented enthusiastically about their trip to Puente “It was really fun”.

If you are interested in a tour with Kerry please contact Tricia Dell, Puente’s Development Director at (650) 879-1691 ext. 148.

Homework Club participants celebrate a year of work

Twice a week, students of Pescadero Elementary School and their parents received homework, reading and math support from Puente’s Youth Staff tutors.

Last week, this group ended their meetings for the school year 2010-2011. Students, parents and tutors were recognized for their hard work.

Puente is very appreciative of the work of Rachel Moody, Learning Center Coordinator; Josh Crockett, Migrant Education Program Coordinator; and Martina Tello, San Mateo County Librarian.

Funding for this program is partially provided by the San Mateo County Library System.

Sixth Grade Academy celebrates cooking and learning

More than 75 adults and children gathered to enjoy a home-cooked meal prepared by students enrolled in LHPUSD’s 6th Grade Academy. The students have been working all year in conjunction with the food lab to grow and cook healthy foods. Thanks to all for a great evening.
