Dear friends of Puente,
Every day my heart fills with joy and thanks for Puente’s mission.
Sweet memories and countless stories of resilience and strength fill my thoughts.
I remember last year when our local country store burned down and everyone in the community was ready within minutes to help the owner and the employees. I was grateful for all of their care and actions to help.
I remember when our first local DACA applicant was approved! The entire family was so relieved and thankful for the new opportunity that brightened the applicant’s future. I was grateful for the pro-bono attorneys that reviewed those applications and for the brave young men and women who trusted us to apply.
I remember the young man in our community, detained by immigration. He spent 8 months in two different states under Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Eventually, with the support of attorneys and community partners, the young man made it back to his family. We really won that one!
I remember when landslides in La Honda caused structural damage to houses and three of my colleagues sprinted to help evacuate the places, helping other volunteers move everything out within hours.
This year, I remember the large number of e-mails, calls and visits I received from members of the community asking how to best help our work after the results of the presidential election. I am grateful to them for not being silent or fearful to speak up.
In these stories, we have never done it alone. If you are reading this newsletter, it is very likely that you have been there for us. In some occasions, the outcomes of these stories seem the work of a miracle!
And, because I look back, I must look back further and acknowledge this holiday is a day of mourning for Native Americans who lived here long before us. On this occasion, we honor them, their land, and their culture and we use this opportunity to thank you, our beloved community, for your support. You make our community a better place.

Queridos amigos de Puente,
Todos los días mi corazón se llena de alegría y agradecimiento por la misión de Puente.
Dulces recuerdos e innumerables historias de resistencia y fuerza llenan mis pensamientos.
Recuerdo el año pasado cuando nuestra tienda local se quemó y todos en la comunidad estaban listos en cuestión de minutos para ayudar al propietario y a los empleados. Me sentí agradecida por todos sus cuidados y acciones para ayudar.
¡Recuerdo cuando nuestro primer solicitante local de DACA fue aprobado! Toda la familia estaba tan aliviada y agradecida por la nueva oportunidad que alegraba el futuro del solicitante. Me sentí agradecida por los abogados pro-bono que revisaron esas solicitudes y a los valientes hombres y mujeres que confiaron en nosotros para aplicar para este programa.
Recuerdo al joven de nuestra comunidad, detenido por inmigración. Pasó 8 meses en dos estados diferentes bajo control de migración. Eventualmente, con el apoyo de abogados y miembros de la comunidad, el joven regresó a su familia. ¡Realmente ganamos ese caso!
Recuerdo cuando los deslizamientos de tierra en La Honda causaron daños estructurales a las casas y tres de mis colegas corrieron para ayudar a evacuar el lugar, ayudando a otros voluntarios a mover todo en cuestión de horas.
Este año, recuerdo la gran cantidad de correos electrónicos, llamadas y visitas que recibí de los miembros de la comunidad para preguntar cómo ayudar a avanzar nuestro trabajo después de los resultados de las elecciones presidenciales.
Les estoy agradecida por no estar callados o temerosos de hablar. En estas historias, nunca hemos estado solos. Si está leyendo este boletín, es muy probable que usted haya estado allí para ayudarnos. ¡En algunas ocasiones, los resultados de estas historias parecen ser un milagro!
Y así como estoy mirando al pasado, debo mirar hacia atrás aún más y reconocer que estas celebraciones son un día de luto para todos los nativos americanos que vivieron aquí mucho antes que nosotros. En esta ocasión, los honramos a ellos, a su tierra y a su cultura, y aprovechamos esta oportunidad para agradecerle a ustedes. Su ayuda, su aliento y su apoyo hacen que nuestra comunidad sea un lugar mejor.
