The warm affection of La Sala Posada

Growing up in a small town in Mexico I remember Las Posadas to be fun and full of joy! Las Posadas bring out the joy of giving — the joy to be able to give posada (shelter) to our guests. A welcoming warm place, a hot meal, along with the joy of conversation and gifts to take home, mean a great deal to the community members who participate in Puente’s La Sala program. Most of these men are farmworkers, and here on their own, without their families. Some of them have years, and even decades, without seeing their loved ones.
During our La Sala Posada on December 3rd, Puente provided a hot meal, music, welcoming company, and distributed gifts and essential winter items to 100 South Coast residents.
During the posada there was joy, there was laughter, there were exhilarating conversations, and traditional music and dance from Ballet Folklórico Tonantzin of Pescadero. The performance of the ballet folklórico in our posada was a happy reminder of the fun memories, and the cultural heritage we left behind when we migrated to this country. I looked around the room and I could see expressions of happiness and joy on the faces of everyone in attendance.
The fun did not stop with the ballet folklórico. Santa Claus came to visit and brought gifts for our La Sala program participants, and took pictures with us. I was happy to join several of the participants to take pictures with Santa. After all he only comes around once a year. Participants also received gifts from Santa Claus and from Puente. Right before the end of our program Gabriel, our long time La Sala participant and former board member, sang a few songs and took the dance floor along with other participants and Puente staff.
The following day when I visited some of the farms I asked the participants how they liked the posada. They all said they had a great time and that they were very grateful with Puente for giving them posada.
The joy and cheer at the posada were affirmations that as immigrants we have made a home here, that the community has welcomed us with open arms, and now sees us as part of the fabric of the South Coast. It was truly heartwarming for everyone involved, and a feeling of belonging was left in all our hearts that will last long beyond the holiday season. I could not ask for a better posada.

La calidéz y el cariño de la Posada de La Sala

Creciendo en un pequeño pueblo en México, recuerdo que Las Posadas eran divertidas y llenas de alegría. Las Posadas ponen de manifiesto la alegría de dar. La alegría de poder dar posada a nuestros huéspedes. Un lugar cálido y acogedor, una cena casera, junto con la alegría de la conversación y los regalos para llevar a casa significan mucho para los miembros de la comunidad que participan en el programa La Sala de Puente. La mayoría de estos hombres son trabajadores agrícolas que están aquí solos, sin sus familias. Algunos de ellos tienen años e incluso décadas sin ver a sus seres queridos.
Durante nuestra Posada de La Sala el 3 de Diciembre, Puente brindó una merienda casera, música, buena compañía, y distribuyó regalos y artículos de invierno esenciales a 100 miembros de la comunidad de la Costa Sur.
Durante la posada hubo alegría, risas, conversaciones estimulantes y música tradicional y danza del Ballet Folklórico Tonantzin de Pescadero. La presentación del ballet folklórico en nuestra posada fue un feliz recordatorio de los recuerdos alegres y la herencia cultural que dejamos atrás cuando emigramos a este país. Miré alrededor del salón y pude ver expresiones de felicidad y alegría en los rostros de todos los asistentes.
La diversión no se detuvo con el ballet folklórico. Santa Claus vino a visitar y trajo regalos para los participantes del programa de La Sala, y se tomó fotos con nosotros. Estuve feliz de unirme a varios de los participantes para tomar fotos con Santa. Después de todo, él solo viene una vez al año. Los participantes también recibieron obsequios de Santa Claus y de Puente. Antes del final de la posada, Gabriel, nuestro participante de La Sala y previo miembro del consejo directivo de mucho tiempo cantó algunas canciones y tomó la pista de baile junto con otros participantes y el personal de Puente.
Al día siguiente, cuando visité algunas granjas, le pregunté a los participantes cómo les gustó la posada. Todos dijeron que la pasaron muy bien y que estaban muy agradecidos con Puente por darles posada.
Estás expresiones de alegría y felicidad en la posada son afirmaciones de que como inmigrantes hemos establecido un hogar aquí, que la comunidad nos ha acogido con brazos abiertos, y ahora nos ve como parte del tejido de la Costa Sur. Fue realmente conmovedor para todos los involucrados, y un sentimiento de pertenencia quedó en todos nuestros corazones que durará mucho más allá de estas fechas festivas.
