Call for volunteers!

Puente has openings for volunteers to work with Puente participants in two different education programs. Volunteering for these positions will earn you major karma points, and help empower local men and women to reach their scholastic dreams.

• Spanish tutors for GED program

Puente seeks two Spanish-speaking tutors to mentor adult clients who are in the middle of earning their GED (General Educational Development/high school equivalency) certification.  One tutor should have some affinity for teaching science, the other for high school-level math. Both positions require a commitment of 2 hours per week.

• Plaza Comunitaria tutors

Puente needs at least 4 volunteer tutors for Plaza Comunitaria, the Mexican government-sponsored program that helps adults earn their primary or secondary school certificates. Fluency in Spanish is a must.

To volunteer, please submit a Puente Volunteer Form or contact Abby Mohaupt at amohaupt@mypuente.org or (650) 879-1691 ext.  196.

What does Puente need this month?

Glad you asked! Puente is gathering school supplies and taking cash donations for our upcoming Día de los Niños celebration (April 23) in conjunction with Pescadero Elementary School. Puente is making 120 bags for the children stocked with:

Scissors
Watercolors
Stuffed animals
Rubber ducks
Pencil sharpeners
Play-Doh
Children’s socks
New books!

We are also having a special, targeted campaign on Rally for Zumba! Even with the great success of our recent Zumbathon, we still have about a $5,000 gap we are trying to fill in before our next grant rolls in. $30 pays for one monthly membership for a Zumba instructor; $50 covers the cost for one Zumba instructor to teach one class; $101 pays for childcare for one class; $500 will more than finish paying for a new sound system! Visit Rally and contribute what you can today.

Finally, Puente needs healthy snacks for our children and adult programs. Fruit, granola bars, juices, individual soups and popcorn – all are welcome.

To donate, call (650) 879-1691 ext. 196 or email Abby Mohaupt amohaupt@mypuente.org.

Edible After School: The Pizza Edition

Chef Amy is back in action, this year teaching middle schoolers in a kitchen at Pescadero High School. With hundreds more tricks up her sleeve, our very own internationally-acclaimed chef tackled making pizza on Wednesday with the kids- from scratch! Take a look.
